TLS as president, one page, 6.75 x 9, White House letterhead, April 29, 1999. Letter to George McFarlane of Maryland, in part: "As you know, I believe that ending the tragedy in Kosovo is a moral imperative and vitally important to our national interests. If we are to build a better and brighter future for the 21st century, we must continue working to uphold America's values, protect our interests, and promote stability. Your support for our efforts means more than you can know." In very fine condition.
In 1999, President Bill Clinton led NATO in a military intervention to stop the ethnic cleansing of Albanians in Kosovo by Serbian forces under Slobodan Milošević. The 78-day NATO bombing campaign, Operation Allied Force, was pivotal in pressuring Serbian forces to withdraw from Kosovo and paving the way for a UN-administered interim government. Clinton framed the intervention as a moral obligation to prevent genocide and protect human rights, emphasizing the need for U.S. leadership in global humanitarian crises.
From the Collection of Paul K. Carr, former UACC President and Noted Expert.
