TLS as president, signed in the lower margin, "Jimmy Carter," one page, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, April 28, 1978. Letter to Walter Shea of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, in part: "After years of difficult negotiations and months of Senate debate, new Treaties between the United States and Panama were recently approved. I want to thank you for your participation in this deliberative process. The active interest that you and many other Americans took in this vital issue resulted in a broad public discussion of the Treaties. It is part of the greatness of America that people everywhere can have an influence over the great decisions which face our nation. Your willingness to take the time to be involved sets an excellent example for all Americans. I hope you will continue to let your voice be heard on other issues in the future." The letter is signed once in autopen, but is authentically signed in the lower margin in black felt tip. In very fine condition. Accompanied by the original White House mailing envelope.
From the Collection of Paul K. Carr, former UACC President and Noted Expert.
