ALS in French, one page, 5.5 x 8.5, September 29, 1849. Handwritten letter requesting some books, in full (translated): "I pray Mr. Duriez, 49, r. mr. Le Prince, to give to Mm. Foucher, among the volumes which I am entitled to receive, a copy of the Odes and Ballades and the Orientales (2 vol.) published by Furne." In fine condition.
Odes et Ballades (1828) and Les Orientales (1829) were early collections of Hugo's poems—the former reflect the Catholic royalist views of his early twenties, and the latter was inspired by the Greek War of Independence.
