Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Georgia (1749–1804). Manuscript DS, signed “Geo. Walton,” one page, 12.75 x 7.75, November 4, 1801. Walton issues a warrant for polygamy and fornication: “Whereas at October Term 1801 the Grand Jury for [Franklin] County…Presented Amon Ayres for living in Poligamy and Miss Swaine for living in Fornication. These are therefore in the name of [Georgia]…to Command you and each of you to take the bodies of the said Amon & Miss Swaine and bring them before me on some Justice of the peace to be dealt with as the law directs.” Signed in the left border by George Walton. In very good to fine condition, with staining to the vertical folds, and somewhat irregular light toning.
