German-British biochemist (1906–1979) best known for being a co-recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on penicillin. TLS signed “E. B. Chain,” one page, 8 x 10, Imperial College of Science and Technology letterhead, August 30, 1963. Letter to journalist and author S. J. Goldsmith, in part: "Thank you for your letter of the 27th August and for the copy of your book. I enjoyed reading it very much indeed; I think it is a very valuable contribution to the appraisal of Jewish achievement in various spheres. The book makes very easy and absorbing reading and I am sure it will have a great success." In fine condition, with two file holes to the left edge.
