Following the devastating result of the atomic bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima in World War II, he renounced his divinity in favor of a democratic constitutional monarchy. Vintage matte-finish 8.25 x 11.25 photo of Hirohito in a three-quarter-length pose, boldly and prominently signed in thick black ink in Japanese. In very good to fine condition, with silvering to the perimeter of the image, and a short tear to the top edge. Signed photographs of Hirohito are extremely scarce, particularly in this larger size.
