Four-language ship's pass for the "Ship America," bound from Massachusetts for a Pacific whaling voyage

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 20.5 x 16, October 13, 1857. Four-language ship’s pass issued to “Charles R. Bryant master or commander of the Ship called America…lying at present in the port of New Bedford bound for the Pacific Ocean and laden with Provisions, stores and utensils for a whaling voyage.” Prominently signed in the fourth panel by Franklin Pierce and countersigned by Secretary of State William Marcy. The original white paper seals remain affixed to the third panel. Impressively cloth-matted and framed with a biographical caption to an overall size of 40.75 x 28.5. In fine condition.
