Description

"You must tell your Unkle Madison or myself what you have fixed your mind upon as best suited to your views of independence and prosperity"

ALS signed “D. P. Madison,” one page, 7.75 x 9.5, October 4, 1833. Handwritten letter to "Richard," in part: "I have been highly gratified by your letters, and ought to have thanked you for them long ago, but you are too well acquainted with the active life I lead not to forgive my delinquency—and too well assured of my true affection for you, to believe my silence proceeded from indifference to your correspondence. I rejoice at the recovery of Madison & his prospect of happiness—Dear Thomas & Lady I hope to be acquainted with before very long. You have returned to that excellent Institution, where advantages of every sort await the good and studious—a few years will bring you to some profession—You must tell your Unkle Madison or myself what you have fixed your mind upon as best suited to your views of independence and prosperity." Beautifully cloth-matted and framed with a portrait and biographical caption to an overall size of 25 x 21. In fine condition.
