Description

Financier and philanthropist (1855-1937) who helped found the Gulf Oil Corporation; he also served as treasury secretary under Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover. TLS signed “A. W. Mellon,” one page, 5.75 x 8, Secretary of the Treasury letterhead, June 7, 1921. Letter to Clarence D. Owens, declining to "deliver an address to the members and faculty of the School of Pan-American and Foreign Commerce…The pressure of important official duties in the Department is so great as to require my undivided time and attention." Impressively cloth-matted and framed with a portrait and plaque to an overall size of 22.25 x 21.5. In very good to fine condition, with fading to the typed text, and brushing to the signature.
