Description

Brewer (1836-1904) who founded the company which, in the 1890s, introduced the 'Blue Ribbon' brand, the 'beer that made Milwaukee famous.' Partly-printed DS, signed “Fred. Pabst,” one page, 13.25 x 7, May 20, 1873. Stock certificate for one share in the Phillip Best Brewing Company issued to fellow brewing executive Emil Schandein, signed at the conclusion by Pabst as president and countersigned by Charles Best, Jr., as secretary. The original receipt remains affixed to the left side. Nicely suede-matted and framed with a portrait and plaque to an overall size of 30.5 x 22. In fine condition.

Pabst was the son-in-law of Philip Best, and having purchased half the company in the 1860s rose to be president of the corporation in 1873. By 1874, the Phillip Best Brewing Co. was the nation's largest brewer. Later, he changed the company's name to the Pabst Brewing Company.
