Namesake and great-grandson of the founder of Alex. Brown & Sons, the first investment bank in the United States, who took control of the firm at age 32 and became involved in railroad mergers of the 1890s (1858–1949). Partly-printed DS, signed “Alex. Brown,” one page, 10.5 x 7, January 21, 1901. Stock certificate for 100 shares in the Continental Trust Company issued to Alexander Brown, signed on the front in ink by the firm's president and secretary, and endorsed on the reverse by Brown to transfer the shares. Impressively cloth-matted and framed with a portrait and plaque to an overall size of 26.75 x 20.25, with a window in the backing for viewing the reverse. In fine condition.
