His political and diplomatic career included posts as secretary of the treasury, minister to France, and governor of New York. Partly-printed DS, one page, 10.75 x 6.25, May 29, 1861. Stock certificate for 60 shares in the Mississippi and Missouri Railroad Company issued to Thomas C. Durant, signed at the conclusion in ink by John A. Dix as the company's president. Handsomely suede-matted and framed with a portrait (featuring a facsimile signature) and engraved plaque to an overall size of 27.75 x 22.5. In fine condition.
