Description

JFK on the "mutual cooperation" of America and Canada — "It is our intention to do everything we can to achieve a program of resource development which will serve to enhance the economic wellbeing of both our countries"

TLS as president signed “John Kennedy,” one page, 7 x 10.5, White House letterhead, June 30, 1961. Letter to George Copping of the International Frontier Week Committee, in part: “It was with great regret that I declined your kind invitation to join you during the International Frontier Week Celebration in St. Stephen and Calais. You and your associates are to be congratulated on your fine work in symbolizing the close relationship between our two countries. As you join in mutual celebration of Dominion Day and Independence Day, you are demonstrating to the world that it is possible for nations to maintain pride in their separate traditions and to retain their identity while growing together in mutual cooperation.

I am pleased that my Administration is being represented at your celebration by Under Secretary of the Interior James K. Carr. Mr. Carr is an outstanding authority on natural resource development and has been given special responsibility for a review of the water resources along the Maine-New Brunswick border, including Passamaquoddy Bay and the St. John River watershed. The sound development of these resources would be of great benefit to citizens in both countries, and it is our intention to do everything we can to achieve a program of resource development which will serve to enhance the economic wellbeing of both our countries.” In fine to very fine condition. Accompanied by a photo of John F. Kennedy by Frank Falacci.
