Description

Rare signed photo of the early deceased F1 world champion

Sought-after glossy 5.75 x 8 publicity photo of Honda Marlboro McLaren driver Ayrton Senna wearing his team racing suit, signed in black felt tip, “Ayrton Senna, 1990.” In fine condition.

Senna earned his second Formula One championship in 1990, albeit one that was not without a bit of controversy. Senna entered the penultimate round at the Suzuka circuit in Japan with a nine-point lead over former teammate Alain Prost, who had switched to Ferrari. When Prost beat Senna off the line, the Brazilian driver drove into the Frenchman at the first corner, putting both out and thus settling the championship in Senna's favor. ‘Senna admitted the following year that the collision was deliberate, as he was furious that Prost had been able to start on the clean side of the grid and had decided that he was not going to allow the Frenchman to 'make the corner' should he lose the start.’

Overall Senna was three times F1 world champion and is still considered by many the greatest Formula One driver of all time. His career was cut short by his deadly accident in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. Authentic Senna autographs are extremely rare, especially examples like this of a larger than postcard size.
