Description

Romanian classical pianist and composer (1917-1950), who died of Hodgkin's disease at the age of 33. TLS in French, one page both sides, 4 x 5.75, May 16, 1946. Letter to the Swiss musician Alfred Pochon, in part (translated): "I had replied that, to our great regret, we could not arrange to come to your place on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th of June, as on the 2nd and 3rd, I am rehearsing with the orchestra in Geneva. On the 3rd, we are heading to Lausanne for the concert on the same day, and the next day, we are heading back to Geneva for the same concert that will take place on the 4th here." In fine condition.

With the outbreak of the Second World War, Lipatti returned to Bucharest but continued to tour throughout Europe and performed in Nazi-occupied countries. After a tour of Scandinavia, he emigrated with his future wife, Madeleine Cantacuzene, to Switzerland in 1943. From 1944 to 1949, he was a professor in the piano master class at the Geneva Conservatory.
