Survivor (1867-1951) of the Titanic disaster who worked as the firemens' messman. Partly-printed DS, signed “T. Knowles,” one page, 8.5 x 6.25, September 10, 1889. Certificate of discharge for Seaman Thomas Knowles of the "Ship Spartan," registered at the port of Southampton, signed at the conclusion by the ship's master and an officer, and endorsed vertically on the left side by Knowles. On the reverse, his ability and character are both marked as "Very Good." In fine condition.
