Important LS as president, one page, 8 x 10, January 19, 1825. Letter to Senator David Holmes of Mississippi, in full: "Certain matters touching the public good, requiring that the Senate of the United States should be convened on Friday, the fourth day of March next, you are desired to attend at the Senate chamber, in the City of Washington, on that day: then and there to receive and deliberate on, such communications as shall be made to you." In very good to fine condition, with scattered staining, affecting only appearance.
The 19th United States Congress convened on March 4, 1825, the day of the inauguration of John Quincy Adams as president. As Adams took the oath of office, he departed from tradition by placing his hand on a book of constitutional law instead of on a Bible. Tying himself to the Constitution and its principles, Adams promised an era of post-partisanship dedicated to the American people, rather than party-building and politics.
