Description

Founder of the Converse footwear brand (1861–1931) who opened the Converse Rubber Shoe Company in February 1908, in Malden, Massachusetts. The company’s popularity exploded with the introduction of the Converse All-Star basketball shoe during World War I and in the years prior to its association with basketball player Chuck Taylor. Rare DS, signed “M. M. Converse,” one page, 11 x 7.75, August 9, 1926. Stock certificate issued to Charles B. Devereaux for five shares in the Converse Rubber Shoe Company. Signed at the conclusion by Marquis Mills Converse as the company’s president and countersigned by Hugh Bullock as treasurer. In fine condition. Bullock invented the characteristic sole of the Converse All-Star sneakers in October 1916, whose patent No. 1,289,106 was published in December 1918. A desirable document related to the original powerhouse of the sneaker industry, which also marks just the second instance we have offered Marquis Mills Converse in any signed format.
