Hungarian-born Austrian founder of Zionism (1860-1904). ALS in German, signed “Th. Herzl,” one page, 5.75 x 9, Neue Freie Presse letterhead, April 3, 1900. Handwritten letter to Mr. Rasder, in part (roughly translated): “Thank you. I'm enclosing 5 Gilders. I may not get to the theatre today. Please pass this along with the money as thanks for help with the play.” Given the date of the letter, the play in question may be the one-act comedy ‘I Love You,’ which premiered at the Vienna Burgtheater on January 12, 1900. In fine condition, with light ink flow to several words of text.
