Handwritten letter from shortly after his receipt of the Legion of Honor Grand Cross—the highest French civilian medal—in recognition of his discoveries. In part (translated): "Thank you, dear Sir, for your gracious congratulations of which I keep the memory, and which, together with all the ones I am presently receiving, oblige me to make new efforts, on which I will not give up as long as I can." In fine condition.
