Scarce ALS signed “Fred'k Douglass,” one page, 5 x 8, February 13, 1883. Handwritten letter to George H. Walker, a correspondent of the Cleveland Herald, in full: “I am much obliged by your respected letter and copies of the Cleveland Herald with a spirited report of the Banquet given in my honor some weeks ago. I have but one fault to find with your report and that is it was a little too generous to me. Of course it is pleasant to be well spoken of and I cannot deny that I was well pleased with the fine picture of myself in your report (any man might be) but I see in it perfections that do not belong to me — Nevertheless, I thank you for all the good things you were pleased to say of me in connection with that festive occasion.” In very fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in the hand of Douglass.
