Description

"Review Vietnam part very carefully"—a rare note from President Ford to his lead speechwriter

Extremely scarce unsigned handwritten note as president by Gerald Ford, one page, 5 x 8, White House letterhead, no date. Ford writes to "Bob H.," presumably his counselor and speechwriter Robert T. Hartmann. In full: "Basically good. Review Vietnam part very carefully. Overall—perhaps a bit too long—see Rob O's comments. Have Jack Marsh read & give views." In fine condition. Ford inherited a difficult situation in Vietnam, with the collapse of South Vietnam nine months into his presidency.
