TLS, one page, 6.75 x 7.5, personal The Outlook letterhead, February 6, 1913. Letter to Herman Bernstein, in full: “If Count Witte had written me direct I would have been glad to answer his letter, but it does not seem to me to be wise or proper, that an answer should be made in indirect form to an indirect request, I shall therefore handle the situation in another but I think equally effectual manner.” Roosevelt adds four words in his own hand. In fine condition, with toning to the corner tips.
