Description

JFK fresh in his new role as a Massachusetts Senator

TLS signed “John Kennedy,” one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Senate, Committee on Labor and Public Welfare letterhead, January 30, 1953. Letter to Mrs. Mullaney, in full: “Since I have been moving about continuously since the election, I have been delayed in writing to tell you how much I appreciate your assistance during the campaign. I am certain we could never have been successful against the Republican sweep if it had not been for the effectiveness of our organization, an organization, in my opinion, which was the best that the state had ever seen. I fully realize that this victory was won by the people such as yourself who carried out the many arduous but necessary tasks which constitute political success, and I am very grateful for everything you did. I am looking forward to seeing you sometime soon to thank you personally. I hope you will let me know if there is ever anything I can do. With every good wish for the New Year.” In very good to fine condition, with some scattered light toning. Congressman Kennedy had won his Senate election in November 1952 and took his seat in the Senate on January 3, 1953. At the start of his first term, he focused on Massachusetts-specific issues by sponsoring bills to help the fishing, textile manufacturing, and watch-making industries.
