Description

LS in French, signed “Buonaparte,” one page, 7.25 x 9, attractive letterhead with a Republican vignette reading "Au nom du Peuple Français - Bonaparte Consul de la République," July 31, 1803. Letter to Jean-Jacques-Régis de Cambacérès, the statesman best remembered as one of the authors of the Napoleonic Code. In full (translated): "I receive Citizen Consul, the list of the nominations done by the Senate. It would be appropriate to publish them in the official journal. I have spotted someone named Pontarein, Councilor of the Prefecture of the Gironde, who has always shown bad manners and behavior. I arrived in Maastricht yesterday after a very tiring day. Consul Lebrun had plans to return via Antwerp, Ghent & Ostend, and to be in Paris in ten days." In fine condition. At the end of June 1803, Napoleon, as First Consul, started an inspection trip to the north of France and Belgium; during this time he worked on his first plan to invade England.
