Partly-printed DS, signed “Victoria R. I.,” one page, 15.75 x 12, August 20, 1885. Queen Victoria appoints Henry Ernest Davis "to be an Officer in Our Land Forces…in the Rank of Lieutenant." Signed at the head in ink by Queen Victoria. The upper left retains the original blue embossed seal. In very good condition, with soiling, staining, toning, and splitting to the vertical folds (repaired on the reverse with a linen backing).
