Description

"It is possible that only unsuccessful experiments have been made"—Nobel demands research into De Laval's patents

Swedish chemist, engineer, inventor, businessman, and philanthropist (1833-1896) known for inventing dynamite and for bequeathing his fortune for the establishment of the Nobel Prize. ALS in Swedish, signed “A. Nobel,” one page, 5.25 x 8, February 25, 1896. Handwritten letter to Oscar Linngstrom, commenting on patents by Swedish engineer Gustaf de Laval, who made important contributions to the design of steam turbines and centrifugal separation machinery for dairy. In part (translated): "It is very interesting that the matter so far has come up to my expectations. But the principle does not seem to be new, to judge by De Laval's patent, we must first of all find out what has already been done. While this would involve expenses and loss of time it is still cheaper than to carry out something that has been done already. It is possible that only unsuccessful experiments have been made, but it is necessary to know about them and to judge their scope in the way of patents." In fine condition. Intriguing content from the founder of the Nobel Prize, connecting him to a fellow Swedish inventor.
