As part of their Preservation Tour, The Kinks hit Newcastle and played songs such as ‘Victoria,’ ‘Lola,’ ‘Celluloid Heroes,’ and ‘You Really Got Me.’ The concert, per a quote by Keith Whitham of the Newcastle Evening Chronicle: ‘The Kinks' show at Newcastle City Hall was an object lesson in how to entertain an audience. It was full of life, energy and humour. Ray Davies' songwriting genius was complemented by a showmanship that had the crowd in raptures. The Kinks gave us everything we could have wished for—loud rock, gentle ballads, satire and social comment—and they gave it all with style.’
