Small .5″ x .25″ segment of 70mm film attested to as being flown to the lunar surface during the Apollo 11 mission and deriving from the personal collection of NASA technician Richard Underwood, who worked in the Johnson Space Center’s Photographic Technology Laboratory for over two decades. The segment is affixed to a commemorative cover with an Apollo 11 image cachet, postmarked on the moon-landing date of July 20, 1969, signed in black ink, “Fred Haise, Apollo 11 BU LMP,” and in blue ink by Sandy Clarkson of The Right Stuff Space, who writes: “The piece of Apollo 11 flown 70mm film affixed here is from Magazine S. The roll was used on the lunar surface to capture the most iconic photos. The film was salvaged by Duck Underwood who ran the developing machine for all flights.” Reverse of envelope is numbered 4/30. In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Clarkson. Underwood was responsible for developing the Apollo photographs—in fact, he was the first person to view every photograph from the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz, and the first 23 space shuttle missions.
