Description

Writer and critic (1893-1967) best known for her often cruelly witty and cynical tone. ALS from Dorothy Parker, penned neatly on her personal stationery card, which measures 4 x 6.25 open, January 26, 1953. Handwritten letter to Bert McCord, in full: “I was surprised and upset to see in the Times an announcement of Arnaud d'Usseau’s and my play, to be produced by Walter Fried in the autumn. We had not wanted any announcements until just a while before production; for, as you surely know, announce it too early, and people say, ‘Oh, that old thing? That’s been kicking around for years.’ Well—it happened, and both Arnaud and I feel rotten for, because of your courtesy in promising to keep it out of the paper, we had promised first to give it to you. I can ruly say we knew nothing about it. This, of course, is entirely personal.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed by Parker, who has incorporated her signature into the return address field on the reverse flap. Based loosely on Parker's life, the play The Ladies of the Corridor, which she co-wrote with famed Hollywood playwright Arnaud d'Usseau, made its Broadway debut at the Longacre Theatre on October 21, 1953.
