Appealing collection of letters and material related to the wedding of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg at the Church of Our Lady of Victory in Centerville, Massachusetts, on July 19, 1986. The collection is highlighted by two letters—a TLS from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, signed “Jackie,” and an ALS from her daughter, signed “Caroline”—both addressed to artist and needlepoint designer Leslie Tillett, who designed the array of tablecloths that were used at the reception held at Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy’s house in Hyannisport.
Jackie’s letter, one page, 5 x 7.25, 1040 Fifth Avenue letterhead, in full: “How can I ever thank you for all you did to help make Caroline’s wedding day the greatest success ever. The table cloths were magnificent and made the tent. The Colors were just right. No one could possibly have created anything more perfect. And, it all made Caroline so happy.” Jackie adds the valediction and a postscript in her own hand: “It was so wonderful to have you do that wonderful New England summer wedding day—No one else could have caught the spirit.”
Caroline’s handwritten letter, penned on both sides of a 6.5 x 4.5 greeting card, in full: “Thank you for the wonderful aquarium / aquatic creation. It’s great. And also, thank you for making the most beautiful tablecloths in the whole world! I am enclosing a couple of pictures for you—the whole thing was magic, thanks to both of you.” A color satin-finish 10 x 8 photo of the reception tent and the tablecloths is included.
Completing the collection are two admission passes and invitations to the wedding and the reception, as well as the wedding’s program and information card. Several envelopes accompany the letters and wedding ephemera. In overall fine condition.
