Filmmaking pioneer (1867-1939) and founder of Universal Studios. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Universal Pictures Corporation letterhead, January 9, 1936. Letter to an opera enthusiast, in part: "You have told me of your desire to see opera on the screen…Universal was the first company to introduce to the screen entertainment of this type when we released more than a year ago Be Mine Tonight which included a number of operatic sequences. As you undoubtedly know this delightful production received world wide acclaim. Perhaps the near future will find us using some of the better known operas and operettas, as well as original material in this field."
