Description

Pair of lightweight Rocky 911 Series Launch Entry Suit (LES) boots issued as flight-ready for a journey to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery orbiter for the STS-128 mission. The black leather-and-canvas mid-calf-length boots feature Vibram soles and retain their original laces. They include their deaccession bag with affixed labels and a “JSC Project Parts” struck through in red felt tip and marked “III,” which reads: “Part Number SED 33104554-305, [12 M], S/N RT, Part Name Rocky Boot Assy Lightweight LES,” with the reverse of the attached FCE 911 Report marked “PIA Complete, STS-128 MS-5 DONN, CE927320…6/23/09,” “OK for Flight STS-128, Per 1027, USA34932…7/16/09,” and “OK to Ship to KSC, Per IM-09-194-1…7/16/09.” In fine condition, with some scuffing to toe and sole areas from use. Launched on August 28, 2009, the STS-128 mission carried the Multi-Purpose Logistics Module Leonardo as its primary payload, which contained a collection of experiments for studying the physics and chemistry of microgravity. Three spacewalks were carried out during the mission, which removed and replaced a materials processing experiment outside ESA's Columbus module and returned an empty ammonia tank assembly. RR Auction is unable to determine if these boots were actually flown to the ISS.
