Description

War correspondent (1887-1939) who lived a life of danger; he was one of radio's first news commentators, known for his fast-talking delivery. Serving as a World War I correspondent, Gibbons lost an eye after being hit by German gunfire while attempting to rescue an American soldier at the Battle of Belleau Wood, France. Vintage matte-finish 10.75 x 13.75 photo of Gibbons smoking a cigarette during an NBC radio broadcast, signed and inscribed in red pencil, "To Dick Hyman, from his fellow-worker and pal, Floyd Gibbons, Mar, 1937." In fine condition, with a crease to the upper right corner.
