Released in 1982, Thriller is widely considered one of the greatest and most influential pop albums of all time. When the iconic title song’s nearly 14-minute-long music video aired on MTV on December 2, 1983, the video not only boosted the album’s music sales by an additional million copies a week, it greatly elevated viewership on MTV, which recorded audience figures 10 times the norm after each broadcast.
