Italian-Canadian magician, mentalist, illusionist, escapologist, ventriloquist, and stunt performer (1911-1993) known worldwide as Mandrake the Magician, though unaffiliated with the comic strip character of the same name. Vintage glossy 7 x 9 photo of the debonair entertainer in a top hat, signed and inscribed in fountain pen to a fellow magician, "To Will Lindhorst: a man I have heard of for many years. It is a pleasure to meet you. All best wishes, Leon Mandrake.” In very good condition, with moderate crazing to emulsion, trimmed edges, and some chipping to top edge. Will Lindhorst worked as an assistant to Howard Thurston, performed under the name 'Chandu the Magician,' and owned magic shops in St. Louis.
