Description

An Elton John-themed strip...inscribed to Elton John

Superb 22.5 x 15.25 reproduction print of a Peanuts daily comic strip from April 6, 1975, signed and inscribed in the upper section in blue felt tip, "For Elton John with admiration and every best wish-Charles M. Schulz." The 10-panel Elton John-themed comic strip features Schroeder and Lucy van Pelt, who asks the young piano player, "What makes you think Beethoven was better than Elton John?" Schroeder responds by congratulating Lucy, runs away and returns with a trophy, explaining "You have just won the award for the most stupid question of the year!" The last panel contains Schulz's preprinted artist signature. Affixed to a slightly larger mount and in fine condition, with the print beginning to peel from the mount. A desirable association piece between two artistic giants whose impact are still felt today.

Provenance: Sotheby's, London. The Elton John Auction, Stage Costume and Memorabilia, Vol. 1. September 6, 1988.
