Description

Scarce jailhouse drawing from the hand of Oswald's assassin

Scarce geometric pencil drawing accomplished by Jack Ruby while imprisoned in the Dallas County Jail., 7 x 4.75, signed and inscribed on the reverse in blue ballpoint to a fellow inmate, "To Thomas E. Miller, Best always, Jack Ruby, Oct, 1965." The edges of the paper are folded inwards, as is typical of Ruby's jailhouse drawings. In fine condition. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder, grading the autograph as "NM 7."

In a letter to JFK collector Dr. John Lattimer, Ruby's prison bodyguard Ray Pennington discussed Ruby's process and state of mind when creating this type of drawing: 'He worked on these drawings when he was nervous, restless, or aggravated about something. Just when the mood hit him-he would work until he got tired or sleepy. He sharpened his pencil constantly on a scratch piece of paper…he never gave any reason for folding the paper around the edge.'
