Description

American electrical engineer (1835-1901) who co-founded the Western Electric Manufacturing Company and is best known for his development of a telephone prototype in 1876; he is also credited as the father of the modern music synthesizer and the creator of the telautograph, an analog precursor to the modern fax machine. ALS, one page both sides, 8.5 x 11, Chicago World's Congress of Electricians letterhead, April 25, 1894. Letter to Professor M. M. Marble, in part: "You say nothing about elevating the platen. I suppose that is the real object in elevating the…arms. The platen should be elevated so as to admit the lens under it. The present platen is only 5 inches space under it…Can you not photograph the instrument there. We have no facilities for doing it and 20 miles from Chicago. Please answer these questions about the platen and the photos." In fine condition, with some light stains, and several extra vertical folds.
