American businessman and philanthropist (1843-1899) who succeeded his father and grandfather as head of the New York Central Railroad. Partly-printed DS, signed “C. Vanderbilt,” one page, 12.25 x 7.25, October 3, 1879. Stock certificate for 100 shares in the Chicago and Canada Southern Railway Company issued to William Heath & Co., signed in ink by Cornelius Vanderbilt II as treasurer. The certificate features a finely detailed vignette of a locomotive. Nicely matted and framed with a portrait bearing a facsimile signature to an overall size of 26.75 x 15.25. In fine condition.
