Commodore in the United States Navy (1774-1833) best known for his victory over the HMS Java in the War of 1812. Partly-printed DS, signed “Wm. Bainbridge,” one page, 8 x 9.75, October 10, 1823. Charlestown Navy Yard document, in part: "Three Thousand Dollars are required for the Pay and Subsistence of Offices, Seamen, &c. on the Books of this Yard, under the command of William Bainbridge, Esq." Approved at the conclusion by Bainbridge. In very good to fine condition, with some minor paper loss to edges and staining to the left side.
