Description

Civil War-dated ALS signed “Geo. G. Meade, Maj. Genl of Wes,” one page, 5 x 8, Head-Quarters, Army of the Potomac letterhead, December 29, 1863. Handwritten letter to Miss Harris, in full: "I return you, your card & silk with my attempt, to write my name—which you will perceive was not very successful & will not be very ornamental to your quilt. If you will favor me with some other pieces I will try again as I am desirous of evincing my sense of the compliment you have been pleased to pay me." Archivally mounted and framed to an overall size of 9.75 x 13.25. In very fine condition.
