Description

Anglican clergyman (1757-1835) and older brother of Horatio Nelson, who was created Earl Nelson and Viscount Merton after Admiral Nelson's death. ALS signed “Nelson & Bronte,” one page both sides, 8 x 10, June 28, 1829. Handwritten letter marked "Private," making a recommendation. In part: "Lieut. Charles Anstruther Barlow, a cousin of Lady Nelson, son of Sir George Barlow, and Nephew of Sir Robert Barlow;—He is a young man of excellent character, & a good officer. He is now serving in the Forte on the South American station, was made a Lieutenant in the year 1822. He served under Lord Exmouth in the Queen Charlotte at the Battle of Algiers. If your Lordship could give him his Rank as Commander, you would be conferring a great affectional favor. In fine condition, with two circular paperclip impressions to the top.
