Description

King of Spain (1857-1885) who reigned from 1874 to 1885, after a coup d'etat restored the monarchy and ended the ephemeral First Spanish Republic; his mother, Isabella II, had been deposed in the Glorious Revolution of 1868. Large and uncommon 6.75 x 9.75 mounted albumen photo of King Alfonso in his decorated uniform, signed and inscribed in French in ink to his dear cousin, and dated May 1882. In very good to fine condition, with a thin cardboard strip affixed along the left edge, some surface loss to the bottom border, and mounting remnants to reverse.
