Description

Handwritten draft lyrics in black ink by Phil Collins for the 1981 Genesis song ‘Me and Virgil,’ headed with the working title ‘Chunky,’ one page, 8 x 11.75, unsigned. The lyrics, in part: “Ma would never tell what happened / and we never pushed the points too far / we know we had chores to tend to / like fixing fences, just helping her / we’d drink our coffee while she washed the dishes / then me and Virgil chopped some wood / we’d stop our swinging just to listen to her crying / she didn’t sound too good / I remember.” In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks. Collins wrote the song 'Me and Virgil' in the form of a story and has since deemed the song 'a dog,' citing it as one of his worst pieces of writing. According to Collins, the group was trying to do something similar to the work of The Band, but 'we couldn't.'
