United States Army officer (1788-1860) known as the 'Father of the Modern Quartermaster Corps.' ALS signed “Tho. S. Jesup,” one page, 7.75 x 9.25, September 9, 1836. Handwritten letter to Dr. G. H. Crossman in Montgomery, Alabama, in full: "I have this moment received your letter, and sympathize with you most sincerely, in the loss you have sustained. Fly immediately to your wife. She needs all the consolation you can bestow. An order will be issued to day relieving you, but do not wait for it should it not be received with this letter." In fine condition, with a tear to the left edge.
