Career United States Army officer, civil engineer, and a Union general (1803-1862) who was mortally wounded at the Battle of Antietam during the Civil War. ALS signed “Jos. K. F. Mansfield,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, April 4, 1845. Letter to Henry Brainerd, written from Fort Pulaski. In part: "I thought I offered you a fair price for the 3 stave as per my letter of the 13th…It was at the rate of 25 cts the cubic foot for the stave & 25 cts for the top surface. These were to be common dressed work & any inequalities of the beds would be of no consequence." In fine condition.
