Harrison approves a land grant to a "private of the Continental line"

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Virginia (1726-1791) who was the father of President William Henry Harrison and great-grandfather of President Benjamin Harrison. Partly-printed DS, signed “Benj. Harrison,” one page, 5.75 x 3.5, August 27, 1783. Official document as governor of Virginia, in full: "I Do Certify, That Thomas Alsop, entitled to the proportion of land allowed a private of the Continental line, who enlisted for the war…has served three years." Signed at the conclusion by Governor Harrison and countersigned by Thomas Meriwether. Mounted, matted, and framed to an overall size of 12.5 x 10.25. In very good condition, with irregular toning, paper loss, and several repaired tears.
