French composer (1819-1880) best known for his popular stage works, most notably Orpheus in the Underworld (including the famous 'Can-Can') and The Tales of Hoffmann. ALS in French, one page both sides, 4 x 5, no date. Untranslated letter to the 'head of office at the ministry of war.' In fine condition. Accompanied by the original hand-addressed mailing envelope.
