Description

"Americans have movies in their bones like so much radium and it's practically impossible to write on any American theme without hearing from the Geiger counter"

TLS signed “S. Bellow,” one page, 7.25 x 8.75, University of Chicago letterhead, January 19, 1966. Letter to David Kohnhorst, in part: "Your letter is splendid, and I am sure you are right about the movies as a subject. If it came naturally, if I knew something about pictures I would count myself lucky. But I was fifty years old last June and I think I would be a bit lame in Hollywood. As a pair of eyes I might enjoy an exotic visit, but I'm afraid I would never be ideally 'with it.' Fortunately or unfortunately Americans have movies in their bones like so much radium and it's practically impossible to write on any American theme without hearing from the Geiger counter." In very good to fine condition, with light creasing and several staple holes. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
